This July the ever-growing relationship between comics and music reaches new heights as Tori Amos and Image Comics release COMIC BOOK TATTOO, a 480-page, full color anthology adapting the themes and ideas behind her songs into a lush volume of sequential art.
"I have been surprised, excited and pleasantly shocked by these comics that are extensions of the songs that I have loved and therefore welcome these amazing stories of pictures and words because they are uncompromisingly inspiring," says Amos. "It shows you thought is a powerful formidable essence and can have a breathtaking domino effect."
To assemble COMIC BOOK TATTOO's diverse roster of talent, Amos worked alongside editor Rantz Hoseley, co-creator behind the upcoming DISPLACED PERSONS and VIX. Together they formed a line up featuring Y: THE LAST MAN's Pia Guerra, Leah Moore, John Reppion David Mack, Hope Larson, Ryan Kelly, Jonathan Hickman, Colleen Doran, Eric Canete, Ted McKeever, Jock, Anthony Johnston, Dame Darcy, Carla Speed McNeil, Kelly Sue DeConnick, Mark Buckingham, Ivan Brandon, C. B. Cebulski and many more, including an introduction by SANDMAN creator Neil Gaiman.
Editor Hoseley added, "While the connections between comics and music have been long established by generations of creators, Comic Book Tattoo is the pure distillation of how these two art forms inspire and feed off of each other across all the classifications, genres and styles of comic storytelling. Like Tori¹s music, these stories run the gamut of human experience, emotion and imagination brought to life by some of the most compelling and innovative creators in the field of comics."
COMIC BOOK TATTOO, a 12" x 12" 480-page anthology, will be in stores July 23rd.

Dear Tori,
…writing to forward my thoughts… I have recently purchased and listened to your newest compositions ‘American Doll Posse’, found it well written, orchestrated and produced. The song variations seem to cater to a wide and musically-varied audience, giving various associates and music sources rise to sift through responses to the music, makes for smart business acumen for an artist to appeal to different genre of musical appreciation.
I felt an urge inside and I needed to write this letter and to humbly give my thoughts… my first being ‘Little Earthquakes’…and how I enjoy the simplicity of solo piano and voice; uncomplicated percussion and instrumental accompaniment, and the complexities that these can offer when woven together as you are so well ear-marked for and create so well, like the compositions of your musical history, and anything new you deem to write.
I regret that a slice of me should feel rather musically selfish in a way…On the flip-side, I believe there would be a large number of people (uhemm… in the 40’s+ group, my age-group!) who would listen and enjoy the haunting sounds of voice and piano and eclectic song-writing and who would be absolutely kicked over with this kind of palette of compositions and the beauty and enjoyment it has to offer; to relate to.
I appreciate the amount of work involved in musical creation and the expansion from the core of the artist as a musical representation moulded from the multi-reflections that exist and surround the artist and music for the time the music is written.
I relate well to voice and piano, a capella, the sounds and melodies; mostly they make my life sing… These Precious Things, Winter, China, Leather, Mother, Tear in Your Hand, Little Earthquakes, Pretty Good Year, Bells For Her, God, Past The Mission, Baker Baker, The Waitress, Cornflake Girl, Icicle, Cloud On My Tongue, Yes Anastasia, Jamaica Inn, Sleeps with Butterflies, Ribbons Undone, Original Sinsuality, The Beekeeper, Marys of the Sea, Toast, Rooseterspur Bridge, Beauty of Speed, Almost Rosey, Dark Side of the Sun, Song For Eric, …and all of Scarlet’s Walk.
These are just some of my favourite compositions I like to listen to that lift me when I feel disassociated with life. They take me away from the unrest and send me on a journey into places I don’t normally travel without musical intervention.
Feeling the rhythm and melodies resonate through me gives me a unique kind of happiness. It allows me to renew my perspective. I can give myself the space I need to reflect and renew my values, understand more fully what makes my world unique, to look in unlikely places to find answers, and for the greater, a soulful appreciation of music. A message from the universe I try to remember… Where there is life there is hope. Where there is hope there is music. Where there is music there is life.
It is my wish that you receive this letter in some form with kindness bestowed, and in appreciation for the inspired hard work, research and reading, juggling personal time and family-hood with the spiritual energies that accompany what the universe has on offer for your wielding and weaving of your musical creations.
Best wishes and health to you, your family and musical associates.
Bless…..

I can't wait for this graphic novel....hell, I'll buy it the day it comes out! It's time for art forms to homogenize and develop a thick milk for us to drink. It's the milk of beauty, a milk that Tori has been producing for years.

Tori is a messenger of Goddess. Tori is short for Victorious.

I Wrote and Drew a Story!
I'm one of the contributors to the book, and I am really excited about it. I'm also a long time Tori fan, I saw her at Bimbo's in San Francisco in (I think) 1992. This was a very, VERY cool project to be part of.

Most intriguing.....I can only imagine the work this combination of mediums and artists will generate.....How exciting!
What is the point of having a title to a comment?
OK, the only thing that will make me happier than this news is finding out that the book is $9.95...
Anticipation
Oh wow.. I'm really excited about this! Is Tori going to reveal a bit more of what her songs mean? Of course art is very interpretive, but I imagine she'll have to tell the artists what she was thinking when she wrote her songs. I hope so. I understand that she likes us to pull our own meanings from her creations, but it actually drives me nuts that I can't figure out what's going on in this amazing woman's head!
Perfect!
Wow! I've been lookin for ideas for my first tattoo and this is just...perfection! Tori is the biggest influence in my life and I cannot wait to spend my well earned money on all things tori! Chawa is right, there's always something to look forward to! Much appreciated! x

When are you gonna love you as much as I do?
Anime is it
very excited about this... hope to own it - or all of them.
this is an extremely exciting concept.
"so cool" comes to mind... but that term is so undone.
the possibilities of a project like this is just brilliance.
~thought, music, art, movement, thought, music, art, movement~... (not in that order always - but playing all together..... )
there is a province building here. myths resurfacing and giving to us all...
there must be more to say but i'll give others room to gush.

Tattoo
This will be cool, I'm sure. However, I would think carefully about a tattoo. I have many and waited several years to get each one. I wanted to be 100% sure that I would not later regret any of them. Remember people, they are permanent. Don't just get one because of Tori. I love Tori greatly, don't misunderstand me, please. Just use brain cells!
yippy skippy
What I like about this is that it's not all going to be within the same theme cause her songs are all their own. It's going to be amazing.
I'm so excited
I've never wanted a tattoo but this is tempting me. If we can't have a new Tori album, or dvd, this is third best!
Can't wait
I sure will turn one of them into my first tattoo.
what fun
i wonder how many peopl will turn them into real tattoos
